Lublin Contemporary Dance Theatre

LDT was established at the Culture Centre in Lublin in 2001. During 5th International Lublin Dance Theatres Festival they presented their first premiere “Optical treaty” (chor. Hanna Strzemiecka), which was also awarded with a special prize on XIV International Festival of Contemporary Choreography in Vitebsk (Belarus) in 2001.

Lublin Dance Theatre took part in international festivals in Graz, Eisenhuettenstadt, Kaunus, Yaroslavl, Kalisz, Bytom and Cracow.

The Theatre also received a prize on Łódzkie Spotkania Teatralne 2002.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE GROUP OF LUBLIN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

CDGLTU has performed at dance festivals in Poland (Bytom, Warszawa, Sanok, Zielona Góra, Gdańsk, Białystok, Poznań, Kraków, Łódź) and abroad (Switzerland, France, Holland, Lithuania, Hungary, Tunisia, Belarus, Finland, Germany, Austria).

The Group was a recipient of the main awards of the International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz for five subsequent years. In 2000 the Group was awarded for the aspects of theatre research in their choreographies at the International Festival of University Theatres in Monastir, Tunisia and in 2001 they got a prize on Łódzkie Spotkania Teatralne.

Since 1997 CDGLTU has been a co-organiser of annual International Lublin Dance Theatres Festival.

MISSION STATEMENT

In their artistic research Lublin Dance Theatre and Contemporary Dance Group of Lublin Technical University concentrate on two domains.

  1. Searching for its original and specific form of expression through:
    • creation of the space architecture focused on relationships and meanings of the space-and-time structures, by making use of contemporary trends and rules of space building;
    • creating of specific quality of movement, which can vividly express physicality of human body, individual expression of the dancers and three-dimensional existence of their bodies in space;
    • use of gestures, often transformed in an abstract way, that enables the choreographer to create a specific atmosphere of the performance.
  2. Creating of a dance theatre as a place of dialogue with the audience about the world around and promotion of dance as a medium of intellectual and emotional expression, having a great social and political potential.
