Ukraine. G-Spot

A performance-presentation of Alyona Sibiryakova's new book 'Ukraine: G-Spot' took place on April, 21 in Kiev.

The artistic event was organised in the very heart of the capital, the 'Premier Palace' Hotel. Representatives of a diplomatic corps, political beau-monde and business establishment, editors of popular publishers and the book heroes gathered in a point which became the centre of events described in a novel.

The new book by a political strategist Alyona Sibiryakova discloses the inner essence of the processes in a post-Soviet space within the last decade - in politics, society and personal communication.

An interactive performance molded dance, theatre, video-art and fashion into an emotional visual image. Visual theatre is an absolutely new for Ukraine kind of artistic practice, rooted in Isadora Duncan's expressionist dance and Martha Graham's free dance.

The 'Ukraine. G-Spot' performance is the successful result of a joint creative work of the director and choreographer Marina Lymar with professional performers Daniil Belkin, Vitaliy Yeloyev, Maria Kondratieva and Anastasia Kostenko, the graduates from the contemporary dance centre "Other Dances" (Dnipropetrovsk).

An organic unit of the performance was the collection of the famous Ukrainian designer Fedor Vozianov which one could only see in Paris or Milan before.

" Ukraine is not Russia which comprehends itself, writes and talks about itself a lot. Today, when looking at the stage where the book story was presented to the viewer through body, gesture and symbol I ascertained again that my Ukraine is not talking, it is rather dancing. It moves giving rise to emotions and it keeps silent..."

From the press

Performance “Ukraine. G-Spot” is a corporal comprehension of processes taking place in modern Ukraine. According to the author of the book bearing the same name Alyona Sibiryakova, Ukraine is very corporal.

“It is not Russia which comprehends itself, writes and talks about itself a lot. When looking at the stage where the book story is presented to the viewer through body, gesture and symbol I ascertained again that my Ukraine is not talking, it is rather dancing. It moves giving rise to emotions and it keeps silent...”

While thus fixing the situation in the country, the author of the book «Ukraine. Spot G» doesn’t offer the way out. The attitude of the performance director, Marina Lymar, is more optimistic. She ends the performance with the dance mise en scene, musically accompanied by Svyatoslav Vakarchuk’s song «But I’m free, as I’m alive».
